The following preparation may be helpful for those of us experiencing pain, pressure or congestion in the sinuses.
Ginger Compress for Easing Sinus Pain
- 5 slices fresh ginger root or
- 2 teaspoons dried ginger root
- Saucepan
- 2 cups water
- A clean washcloth
Slice the ginger (if using fresh) into thin crosswise slices. Pour water into pan and heat to a boil on medium high heat. Add all of the ginger (whether using fresh or dried) to the water in the pan. Turn the burner down to medium low and simmer the ginger for 10 minutes.
Take the ginger tea off of the heat and let it cool down to where it is still very warm but not hot enough to burn you. Strain out the solids. Submerge a clean washcloth in the warm ginger tea and wring out the excess. Fold the washcloth in half. Lie down and place the warm folded washcloth across your eyes and over the bridge of your nose. Leave it in place until it starts to cool down. Re-dip, re-wring and replace the cloth over eyes and sinuses again.
This method will often ease sinus pain and break up congestion. It may be repeated as needed.
